IN What Remains of Edith Finch Everyone is dying – the game itself is dedicated to the deaths of the characters. Heroes associate this with a certain family curse: even the founder of the American branch of the Finch family moved to Washington in a desperate attempt to escape from evil rock, who destroyed his wife and son. But in the course of passage, you notice that the death of heroes was accompanied not so much by mysticism as the poetry of allegories. So, maybe there is no curse? But what then brought into the grave of almost all representatives of the Finch family? Let's try to figure it out. And yes, this whole article is one continuous spoiler. We warned you!
Old -timers
Before proceeding to the analysis of the incident, it is worthwhile to tell about the death of each Finch. And even at this stage we are faced with some difficulties: the game sometimes describes the causes of death too metaphorically. You can talk about the fate of some heroes with great confidence, but for others you have to build whole theories. But this is the most exciting, true? So let's go in order.
One (1880 – 1937)
The bearded Norwegian rich man was seriously afraid of the curse that fell on his family. And for some reason I decided that moving to another country would help get rid of it. True, he really got his soul to his family house, so he decided to move to another continent along with his male. The crazy undertaking was almost successful: because of a small storm, the house sank literally a hundred meters from the American coast-right with its fearful master. Other members of the family who sailed on ordinary ships, and not in a house, who was hoisted on a barge, apparently not injured.
Eddie (1917 – 2010)
The only family member of the family, who had been well -known to us to a very old age and who died precisely from her. Apparently, she also believed in the curse – at least told her granddaughter that she could not be saved from him. If you believe the date of birth, Eddie managed to live in the old, sanking, a house, although for some reason she wrote in her “Finches history” that she first saw him on land only in 1999, during an abnormal tide.
Molly (1937 – 1947)
The perfect girl-angelist of the sample of the forties. She was fond of wildlife, and with unexpected thoroughness: in addition to a hamster, fish and an ant farm in her room you can see the dried scorpion and even a skull – apparently, deeds. The cause of death in the game is not directly indicated, but before the death of the child there were hallucinations (in which, among other things, she ate the Paduba berry and toothpaste) and a strong feeling of hunger.
Visions, I must say, are quite cruel: the girl saw herself a hunting cat, owl, a shark and even a marine monster. The murder and devouring of the victims are shown with the relish and details that are uncharacteristic of the imagination of an ordinary ten -year -old child, let it be fond of biology. Symptoms are known too little to confidently say what exactly broke the life of the young Molly, but it can be assumed that it was diabetes (this is hinting at an empty vase for Halloween sweets) or a neglected case of some parasitosis. In favor of the second version, the fact that she regularly chewed the vegetables of her hamster, and the last monster from her vision looked like a giant worm.
Edi arranged such memorable altars for almost every deceased family member
Barbara (1944 – 1960)
Also an embodied American dream, but already from the fifties. In childhood, she played in a h from a cunning film and gained popularity almost unbearable for the child (which, it seems, successfully coped), and died on Halloween night at 16 years old – forcibly death.
The game gives us two versions of what happened at once: either she quarreled with her boyfriend and the case reached a fight, or some robbers broke into the house. The brawl exactly took place: this is indicated by hastily repaired railing on the second floor. The death of Barbara noticeably influenced her brother Sam, the grandfather of the main character. By the way, the fact that the authors of the comic book telling the story of the death of Barbara knew so many details (including the secret of the key from the basement!), there is nothing surprising: Edi loved to communicate with reporters and even once told them about Walter, who was christened in the newspaper.
Kelvin (1950 – 1961)
A fearless child who strove into the sky. Kelvin was fond of science fiction and loved to play astronauts, and died as a result of an accident when he made a “sun” on a swing near the house. They, by the way, still stand on the shore in the same form as on the day of the tragedy. In the death of the boy, perhaps, it is worth blaming an obviously unsafe choice of place to build a swing. However, almost everything in the Fincha house violates the rules of technical security – but more on that later.
The bathroom in which Gregory died was later radically converted
Sam (1950 – 1983)
Kelvina twin brother-he only loved to play not into space and rockets, but in soldiers. A real American patriot: at the first opportunity, he escaped from a house reminding him of the dead brother and sister, into the army. He was excellent as a soldier, however, as a hunter. He was fond of photography. Most likely, he believed in the curse, but preferred to move towards his death with his head proudly raised. He died on the hunt: for the sake of a spectacular frame, he neglected elementary security measures – and was dropped from a height with an agonizing deer in front of his daughter Dounced.
Walter (1952 – 2005)
Another member of the Finch family, who unequivocally believed in the existence of a curse: from him he was hiding underground. For thirty years, Walter sat in a bunker under the house, listening to the roar of the allegedly passing house of trains. And finally on March 31, 2005 he decided to break the wall and go outside. The gap in the wall went out onto the railway tracks, and the game hints that the poor fellow was knocked down by a train. However, we have reasons to doubt this.
During the trip of Edith, we see that these same railway tracks were destroyed and partially showered with the coast to the ocean. In fact, it is quite strange to assume that someone will build a railway on a small island and lay it so close to the water. These rails are more similar to some of some ambitious entertaining project of Sven, her husband Eddie. It is even possible that this road was made specifically for Walter: from childhood he was fond of this topic, and in his bunker there is even a couple of toy steam locomotives. Another is on the memorable cross, which marks the place where his body was discovered.
Will you choose reality if the invented world is much more beautiful?
The next oddity is no one except him, the roar and shaking in the house did not notice. But the higher the floor, the more noticeably it should shake – those who lived near the tram tracks above the third floor know this perfectly! In general, the noise and lights of the train, most likely, is just the fruit of the inflamed imagination of Walter. So what he died then?
Imagine that you are a man over fifty, who has been sitting more than half of his life in a tiny bunker for reading books and eating canned goods. And then suddenly grabbed a heavy sledgehammer and beat a very thorough brickwork for a long time. An untrained body may not withstand such exercises – death from a heart attack or stroke is more than likely.
This tree, by the way, does not display all family members
May there be light!
During the passage, some bewilderment may cause the fact that, although the house seems to be de -energized, in a number of its rooms there are light. The point here, apparently, is in the generator who had Bunker Walter. We don’t know what he worked there (for we clearly hear how he buzzes when Edith returns to the house – and this, it turns out, seven years without refueling and leaving!), but perhaps his noise and vibrations could seem to Walter a roar of a train passing by.
Comic book about the death of Barbara. It is replete with such details about the house that Edith living in it did not know in it for many years
New generation
Gregory (1976 – 1977 )
A charming baby accidentally choked in a bath: his mother went to talk on the phone, and at that time a crane opened. This death had great consequences for the marriage of Kay and Sam.
GAS (1969 – 1982)
Gus embodies the eighties with their bristled protest, the struggle against generally accepted norms and foundations – and with parents, of course, too. However, the reason for dissatisfaction with Has was quite weighty: his father, Sam, was going to marry a second time. The teenage rebellion ended sadly. Gus launched an air snake right during his father’s wedding ceremony, defiantly ignoring it, and did not abandon his favorite lesson, even when a hurricane began. As a result, he was either killed by lightning, or threw him into the sea, or simply made his way to death with something difficult-one way or another, the life of another Finch cut off the accident.
Sam with his sons. There is no grave of kay
DOUN (1968 – 2016)
The mother of the main character, having lost her husband, two brothers and two children, is not that she began to believe in the curse – she rather believed that the stories about him were reducing people to the grave. And therefore, with all her might, she sought to leave their home. Actually, she fled from him twice: for the first time she left to work in Calcutta, where she met her future husband. However, already in 2002, Dawn was forced to return to the Finance estate after his death. And when her eldest son Lewis died in 2010, she ran away again, grabbing the only daughter. However, this did not protect Dounced: on October 10, 2016, she died. Apparently from cancer.
Lewis (1988 – 2010)
A real child of the 90s, Lewis loved video games and entertainment. Later he was addicted to drugs, he was treated https://slots-safari-casino.co.uk/ (quite successfully), but the defeated dependence was transformed into a mental disorder. With every day, Lewis was less and less interested in the real world – and in the end he died at the tinning plant, where he worked after the rehabilitation course. It is difficult to say whether it was an accident or suicide for the final reunification with the world of fantasies – and this is not important. In any case, the guy was destroyed by a mental illness.
It can be seen that the railing is broken – most likely a fallen body. This part of the terrible story of Barbara is confirmed
Milton (1992 – 2003)
A strange child with good artistic abilities, about which we are not even completely sure that he died. Once an eleven -year -old boy simply disappeared. Apparently, Milton escaped from the house – and left his relatives a small “cartoon” about how it leaves through the drawn door. The door, by the way, is in his room-zamka room: on a large canvas, in full height. It seems that the great -grandmother Eddie did not believe that the boy was dead: there is only a date of birth on the portrait and under the door eye. Edith believes that her brother died – and indicates in his records the year of his death. This is quite likely: it is unlikely that an eleven -year -old boy could successfully hide for many years.
Milton was strange: children love bright colors, but this eleven-year-old child was fond of black and white graphics. Most of the works from his room are concept art to another studio game Giant Sparrow – " Swan sketch ". Whether it is such a huge Easter Easter, or Monroe from the “sketch” and Milton are somehow connected. It is even possible that Milton is a mysterious king whose country is traveling Monroe.
Edith (1999 – 2017)
The main character, on whose name the narrative is being conducted (by the way, they named her so in honor of Edi's great -grandmother) also dies. Death occurred either during childbirth, or some time after – here we have no information. The doctors probably warned her that the birth would be heavy – so she returned to an empty house. I decided to record his story so that she did not die completely with her if the forecasts of doctors are justified.
Sven, ruined by a dragon. The dragon, by the way, still swims in a pond near the house
"Additional" Finchi
In addition to nee Finchas, the spouses of some of them are also mentioned in history. Their stories are also important for talking about the family curse. Ingeborg, the wife of Odin, died before leaving Norway – and, in fact, promoted her husband to move her death. Sven, the brilliant builder and husband of her daughter Eddie, died under a collapsed water slide in the form of a dragon, which he built for children in 1964.
Monument to one of the countless tragedies
With the first wife of Sam, Kay, there is no clarity. We know that she left the Fin for some time after the death of Gregory, between 1977 and 1982. However, it is unlikely that she died: there is no grave in the family cemetery in the family cemetery. Most likely, she just divorced Sam, unable to withstand the loss of the child. True, the question arises why Gus and Dounced remained with the father: usually during a divorce, children stay with their mother. Although, of course, Kay had an accident with Gregory – it is likely that the court did not consider it appropriate to entrust the children to her. Yes, and Sam still blamed his son in the death of his son than some kind of curse there.
However, Kay did not immediately leave the house: at first she fought for her marriage and a normal life – and at the same time made a disgusting repair in pink tones in the very bathroom where her son drowned. In favor of the version that she left, and did not die, a small box with her things in Sam’s room is not familiar with the game of the family altar, but rather several forgotten objects collected in the box. And, of course, a ticket. We do not know anything about her future fate – we can only note that Sam kept the wedding ring.
An example of Milton's work. Part -time – one of the key arts of the "swan sketch"
As for his second wife, it seems that the marriage did not take place: the celebration was torn by the tragic death of Has. In any case, there is no Sam's second wife on the family tree, and there are no signs of the newly -made Mrs. Finch in the room.
DOUN husband, Indian Sanja, died in 2002 and was buried next to the son of Lewis at the Finnish family cemetery. We know nothing about the causes of his death.
It seems that Dounced has become concerned in the end with security issues
So what's up?
If you look at the situation with the deaths in the Fincha family, then the picture emerges an alarm. It really seems that they are haunted by evil rock: constant accidents, serious illnesses and mental disorders. Four children died due to oversight, and in general, Finchs seem to have problems with a sense of self-preservation. Their entire house is one continuous violation of safety regulations. A chaotic superstructure, open spaces at high altitude, flying on the floor of a wooden house of wires, unsafe stairs … You need to climb a climbing wall into the children's room of Douun! Even the very location of the house is potentially dangerous: on the one hand, the rock, actively destroyed by the sea, on the other – the swamp. It is not surprising that people here are regularly dying.
Lewis cabinet at the tinning plant was not much different from his room
But why Finchi are so boring? Most likely, they have an innate. Odin seemed to have problems with his head: he seemed to be afraid of curse, but still got involved in a terrible adventure with the transportation of the house. The next generation in the person of Eddie, on the contrary, turned out to be quite calm and balanced: she managed to calmly die from old age.
In the third knee, we can confidently distinguish three people with mental deviations: Molly (hallucinations, unhealthy craving for biology), Kelvin (noticeably weakened instinct of self -preservation) and Walter (comments regarding the adequacy of a person who spent thirty years in a bunker underground, too much). Sam also does not value his life too much, which turns into a tragedy, and only the mental health of the star barbara does not raise questions – she transferred her sudden popularity much better than most other star children.
And how to check if the comixists are inventing these bandits, or is it really all about them?
In the fourth generation, we have a douun, who lived quite long, by the standards of this family, life, and her two brothers, who died, in general, by an oversight of adults. In the fifth knee – again the mentally ill Lewis, the strange Milton and Edith not too careful about his safety. However, the “damned” house scared her in childhood – although with age this, obviously, went: during the game this rock columbarium does not seem terrible to her.
What turns out? We see that in the Fincha family there is a mental disorder that is transmitted through a generation-from grandparents grandparents. And this, by the way, is quite typical: problems with the psyche are often transmitted just like that, and not all relatives are manifested at once.
Even in the bunker, Walter did not part with a toy railway
And if you choose between a mystical curse and a quite ordinary genetically determined mental disorder – that in our reality, in the world of the game, we would put it on the second. Not completely healthy people create an unhealthy environment: they build and expand the house without caring about how safe it is to live in it. The structure is really amazing, but we will be honest: if you wanted to live in it with your children, you would have left only the first two floors, and the rest was taken away from sin away. In the current form, this house is as beautiful as it is dangerous for those who live in it. And it makes him so that the light madness that the odd generations of the Finchs suffer.
In the individual generations, the disease is transmitted further, but, in general, does not manifest itself. But the odd ones get the full program-and if we add to heredity any additional factor like drugs or an unhealthy atmosphere, the disease develops in full force. But the dangerous house and constant conversations about the curse are just an unhealthy atmosphere. Here are the logical causes of the abundance of quite early (or at least quite ridiculous) deaths.
The door through which Milton left. As you can see, no secret moves can hide behind her
But maybe the curse exists? Still, not only the Fin for themselves died, but also those who dared to marry them. And here we have two arguments against. Firstly, Kay, who seems to have divorced in time and escaped premature death. Although, of course, it can be argued that it was the divorce that saved her from the birth curse.
Then we have a second counterargument – Eddie. She was not just a Finch from the Finchas, she also lived in the "damned" house – and nothing of the seventy -three years! Were the curse real in the plan of the creators of the game, it would definitely not spare Edi.
Mail box in the form of a miniature copy of the house. Beauty!
And if we are right, then his son Edith should work out well-he is from a certain generation, which means that he should not threaten anything.
Well, a couple of puzzles are smaller. However, not all secrets are disclosed: we still have no idea what happened to Milton Finch and how it is connected with the “swan sketch”. But maybe the next studio game will give us any clues?
It is clearly visible here that the house was built by the Aren Finch. But do not believe: this is just such a spelling of the name Sven
