Posted by MsMojo: 10 Best Original Teen Shows on Netflix (2020) After watching all 3 seasons of Outer Banks, I can’t deny that I had a good time: every episode is full of fast-paced adventures, treasure hunts, and villain chases, all set in exotic locations and with romantic plots.

So what’s not to like!? Well, I have my reservations, too. All the events are very far-fetched and unrealistic: like the group of teenage friends repeatedly escaping right under the noses of the police or heavily armed criminals, often in a hail of bullets but always unscathed; or how they solve incredible mysteries (for example treasures hidden forever or the location of the legendary El Dorado) with a click of the wrist or a stroke of luck.
And of course the silly nicknames like JJ, Pope and John B (what’s the point of that B anyway?)
They illustrate the importance of true friendship, but their adolescent behavior slowly starts to get on your nerves, as do all the brothers and buddies and the inevitable upside-down baseball caps. Everyone looks good, but the acting is more than adequate, only Drew Starkey really stands out as the troubled Rafe, and Rudy Pankow is quite convincing as the inventive JJ with ADHD. It’s really more of a teen show, barely moving outside the realm of The Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew.

Maybe as a mature enough person I shouldn’t watch it at all, but oh well, sometimes it’s nice to go calmly and nicely, without thinking too much. The last scene of the third season laid the foundation for the next season, I hope I can’t resist it. Again..
